Multi-site implementation of intelligent CCTV system.

Forward Logic manages the on-budget installation of a modern IP camera system for an aged care provider, improving the safety and security of residents.

The Challenge and Objective

In 2016, our client identified a need to increase security and safety at five of their sites. They required a modern and intelligent CCTV system to meet the following objectives:
  • Improve security at sites through the deployment of a CCTV solution, acting as both a deterrent as well as supporting post-incident investigations.
  • Improve safety within aged care facilities, enabling nursing staff to better identify and respond to issues, such as falls in common areas.
  • Improve security and safety by capturing video at facility entries and exits, with the capability to clearly capture licence plate details.
  • Reduce loss of assets through theft.

The Solution

Forward Logic offered a solution based on Samsung’s latest IP camera offering, providing high-resolution video images. Due to the segregation of staff responsibilities between estates and the differing use cases between estates and lodges, the recommended solution proposed a holistic technology solution while implementing a set of discreet CCTV systems.

Forward Logic partnered with CPR Electrical, a licensed CCTV security installer, to deliver the implementation of the solution with the Forward Logic Project Manager overseeing all aspects of the project implementation. The process and methodologies employed maximised efficiencies and effectiveness before, during, and after implementation. The implementation team was moving between sites to complete the work within the overall expected timeframe and approved budget.

The Result

Cameras were installed and operational in all five Estates and Facilities, and Forward Logic achieved the following specific outcomes:

  • The project was delivered with the technology proposed and within the budget approved at the commencement of the project.  Samsung IP camera offerings provided high-resolution video images at a competitive price point.
  • Licence plate information was captured by the bullet cameras (Samsung 5MP SNO-8011R) at the entry/exit points to the Estates. Camera settings were adjusted to ensure the details were captured in low light or darkness.
  • The chosen technology leveraged mid-tier ubiquity Wi-Fi network connections providing video data backhaul to the network video recorder. The technology chosen can, in future, connect to a fibre optic network.
  • The staff members stated that the cameras were providing value by assisting in identifying behaviour by residents or staff that may pose risks to health, safety and security. Placing the CCTV monitors in the reception area of the Estates allowed residents to witness the system in action, providing them with a level of comfort that the cameras were in place and operational.
  • The system has continued to provide value to staff and residents, with footage available and to assist with the investigation of incidents on an ongoing basis.
