Implementation of a fibre optic network to replace aging copper phone lines.
Providing reliable, high-speed network connectivity for retirement village residents, delivering a range of capabilities to RAAFA's independent living units.
The Challenge and Objective
RAAFA, like many in the Aged Care industry, is rapidly embracing technology to assist with the pressing challenges presented by the rapidly growing older demographic. Reductions in government funding and increasing expectations from technically savvy residents require broader and improved services whilst driving opportunities for cost savings. To remain current in the industry, a requirement was identified by RAAFA to replace the ageing copper phone lines with an NBN style fibre optic network throughout all retirement village locations and provide high-speed, high-quality communications for their residents.
RAAFA needed a capable partner to guide the solution selection and take the end-to-end responsibility for solution implementation, overseeing all project activities.

The Solution
Forward Logic worked closely with RAAFA to devise and recommend a solution which provided a Fibre to the Home (FTTH) network and devices that could deliver a range of capabilities to the independent living units including telephone, WiFi Internet, MATV, PayTV as well as access to online resident services.
Forward Logic delivered the project across five retirement living estates over a five-year period in conjunction with the RAAFA ICT team project partners including the following key activities:
The Result
Forward Logic was able to draw on our broad experience in the Aged Care sector, strong technical knowledge, and 20+ years of project management experience to ensure the project was delivered on time and budget and realised the defined business objectives.
The project delivered immediate benefits to the residents and providers through improved (high-speed) access to today’s internet-enabled content as well as improved reliable support for essential services such as phone and the dependent resident duress system and reliable access to the MATV system. It also provided the foundation for future services such as facility-wide wireless access and Real Time Location Tracking.
